NEMOSHIP at Watts Up 2025

NEMOSHIP took center stage at Watts Up 2025, held on March 5-6 in Helsingborg, Sweden. This flagship event focused on maritime electrification and energy storage innovation, gathering key industry leaders committed to driving forward the energy transition at sea.

Wei He from Equinor delivered a compelling presentation on the progress and lessons learned from NEMOSHIP, which aims to accelerate the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) onboard vessels.

Key takeaways from the presentation

  • Analysis of over 1,000 installed BESS units across various vessel types, showing clear reductions in OPEX, fuel consumption, and CO₂ and NOx emissions.

  • A practical go/no-go decision matrix, developed to help shipowners assess the feasibility of BESS integration on their vessels.

  • Real-world case studies:

    • The hybrid expedition vessel Le Commandant Charcot

    • The ongoing offshore retrofit project on Normand Drott

  • Outlook on the next steps to improve BESS safety and operational efficiency—critical to scaling adoption across the maritime sector.

Accelerating the green transition at sea

NEMOSHIP brings together expert partners to deliver tangible, reliable, and sustainable solutions for maritime propulsion. The project is at the forefront of decarbonizing shipping, contributing to a cleaner and more energy-efficient future for the industry.

A warm thank you to Wei He and all project partners for their dedication and insights!
